Create & manage playlists

A playlist is a collection of videos. Anybody can make playlists, share them, and friends can add videos to your playlist.

You can go to the Library tab  to view all of your playlists. You can also manage your playlists in YouTube Studio.

Desktop

To find your playlists, go to the Guide  and click Library.

 

Create a playlist

  1. Find a video you want in the playlist.
  2. Under the video, click Save .
  3. Select a playlist such as Watch Later, or a playlist you’ve already created, or click Create new playlist Add to playlist . 
    1. If you create a playlist, enter a playlist name.
  4. Use the box to select your playlist’s privacy setting. If it’s private, only you can view the playlist.
  5. Click Create.

 

Edit a playlist

  1. Select the playlist you’d like to edit in the Guide.
  2. Click Edit  by the section you’d like to change.

 

Delete a playlist

  1. Go to one of your playlists.
  2. Click the Menu .
  3. Select Delete playlist .
  4. Confirm that you want to delete your playlist by selecting Delete.
 
Android YouTube app

You can either start a playlist with a video, or from the Library tab .

 

With a video:

  1. Find a video you want in your playlist.
  2. Tap Save  below the video to automatically save it to the last playlist you’ve saved to, or to your Watch Later playlist. A message will pop up at the bottom of your screen confirming which playlist the video was added to.
  3. To change where your video is saved, tap Change on the pop up. Select from the list of your playlists where your video should be saved and then tap Done . 

 

From the Library tab:

  1. Go to the Library tab .
  2. Tap New playlist Add to playlist  in the “Playlists” section.
  3. To add to the playlist, select one or more videos from your watch history.
  4. Tap NEXT.
  5. Give your playlist a title and set its privacy.
  6. Tap CREATE.

You can create a playlist either with a video, or from the Library tab .

 

With a video:

  1. Find a video you want in your playlist.
  2. Tap Save  below the video to automatically save it to the last playlist you’ve saved to, or to your Watch Later playlist. A message will pop up at the bottom of your screen confirming which playlist the video was added to.
  3. To change where your video is saved, tap Change on the pop up. Select from the list of your playlists where your video should be saved. 

 

From the Library tab:

  1. Go to the Library tab .
  2. Tap New playlist Add to playlist  in the “Playlists” section.
  3. To add to the playlist, select one or more videos from your watch history.
  4. Tap NEXT.
  5. Give your playlist a title and set its privacy.
  6. Tap CREATE.
Mobile website
  1. Select a video you want in your playlist.
  2. Under the video, tap Save .
  3. Tap Create new playlist .
  4. Enter a playlist name.
  5. Use the box to select your playlist’s privacy setting. If it’s private, people can’t find it when they search YouTube.
  6. Tap CREATE.

 

To get to your new playlist, tap the Library tab .

Delete a playlist

  1. Go to the Library tab .
  2. Tap the playlist you want to delete under the “Playlists” section.
  3. Tap Delete .
  4. Select DELETE.

Save playlists to your Library

You can add playlists that you’ve created, playlists that other Creators have made, and videos you’ve added to Watch Later to your Library. Adding playlists to your Library allows you to easily find and view them later.

If you own a playlist, you can publicly add it to your Library so that your viewers can add it to their own Libraries. You can update your privacy settings to remove your playlists from view. By removing it, you can still see saved playlists in your channel, but other viewers won’t.

You can save a playlist while watching it.

  1. Go to a video that’s part of a playlist.
  2. On the right, select the playlist.
  3. In the playlist box, click Save playlist .

Remove a playlist from your library

  1. Go to the playlist you’d like to remove.
  2. In the playlist box, click Remove from library .

From a channel page

  1. Tap the PLAYLISTS tab to view playlists for that channel.
  2. Tap More next to the playlist details.
  3. Tap Save to library.

 

While watching a video

If you’re watching a video that’s part of a playlist, tap Save .

To view playlists you’ve saved and created, go to the Library tab .

  1. Tap the PLAYLISTS tab to view playlists for that channel.
  2. Tap More next to the playlist details.
  3. Select Save to library.

 

While watching a video

If you’re watching a video that’s part of a playlist, you’ll see the playlist name at the bottom of the video player. 

  1. Tap the Down arrow and  Save   to add the playlist to your Library.
  2. You’ll see a check  when the playlist is saved to your account.

To remove the playlist, tap the check .

While watching a video

If you’re watching a video that’s part of a playlist, you’ll see the playlist name at the bottom of the video player. 

  • Tap the Down arrow and Add  to add the playlist to your Library.

To remove the playlist, tap Add  again.

 

View playlists you’ve added to your Library

You can view playlists you’ve added to your Library and created by tapping the Library tab  on the YouTube mobile site. 

Edit playlists

You can add or edit playlist titles and descriptions, reorder videos, or remove videos from a playlist.

Desktop

Add a playlist description

  1. From your computer, select a playlist from your Guide .
  2. Click Edit and then Add a description and enter details about your playlist.
  3. To save, click off the edit box.

 

Edit a playlist title or description

  1. From your computer, select a playlist from your Guide .
  2. Click Edit , then click your playlist title or description and edit it as needed.
  3. Click Done.

 

Reorder videos in a playlist

  1. Select one of your playlists.
  2. Hover your mouse over a video until you see the grey vertical bar near the video’s thumbnail.
  3. Drag and drop the video up or down to reorder the playlist.

 

Remove videos from a playlist

  1. Open a playlist.
  2. Hover over the video you want to remove.
  3. On the right side of the video’s title, click the X icon.

Add a playlist description

  1. Go to the Library tab  in the YouTube app.
  2. Select the playlist you’d like to edit.
  3. Select Edit .
  4. Add a title or description.
  5. To confirm your change, tap the arrow Send in the upper corner.

If the instructions above don’t work, you probably haven’t gotten the new version of this feature, which is slowly releasing to all users. Use the instructions below.

  1. Go to the Account tab  in the YouTube app.
  2. Select the playlist you’d like to edit.
  3. Tap the edit pencil that appears below your playlist title.
  4. Add a description.
  5. To confirm your change, tap the arrow in the upper right corner.

Reorder videos in a playlist

  1. Go to the Library tab  in the YouTube app.
  2. Select the playlist you’d like to edit.
  3. To the left of the video, tap and hold the two lines you want to move.
  4. Drag and drop the video up or down.

Remove videos from a playlist

To remove videos from your playlists, follow the steps below depending on your version of YouTube mobile.

YouTube app
  • Go to the Library tab  in the YouTube app. 
  • Select the playlist you’d like to edit. 
  • Tap More  next to the video you want to remove.
  • Tap Remove from [PLAYLIST NAME].  
Mobile site
  1. Go to the Account  tab in the YouTube app. 
  2. Select the playlist you’d like to edit. 
  3. Tap Menu   next to the video you want to remove.
  4. Tap Remove. 

Manage your Library

You can find your History, Watch later, Playlists, and other channel details in your Library.

Desktop

To find your Library, go to the Guide  and click Library .

 

 History

Videos you’ve recently watched can be found under History. Learn more about how to manage your watch history.

 

 Watch later

Videos you’ve saved or want to get back to can be found under Watch later. Learn more about how to add videos to your Watch Later list.

 

 Playlists

Playlists you’ve created, which includes public, private, and unlisted playlists, can be found under Playlists. Learn more about how to manage your playlists.

Android YouTube app

To find your Library, go to the bottom menu bar and select Library .

iTunes/Apple Music

With iTunes/Apple music, you can import tracks from CDs and organise them into playlists. Click ‘Learn more’ to access their guide

With Spotify, you can import tracks from CDs and organise them into playlists. However, this functionality is limited to premium/paid plans. Click ‘Learn more’ to access a guide on importing tracks to Spotify
